\”But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.’\”
\r\n— Isaiah 43:1
Have you ever stopped to wonder who is speaking in this verse?
\r\n\r\nWe often read Scripture too quickly. But here — the words invite us to pause.
\r\n\r\n\”This is what the Lord says.\”
\r\nNot a prophet.
\r\nNot a king.
\r\nNot a wise teacher.
\r\nThe Lord — the Creator Himself — is speaking.
The Creator
\r\n\r\n\”He who created you.\”
\r\n\r\nThe One who spoke galaxies into being.
\r\nThe One who sculpted mountains, traced the course of rivers, and hung stars in the heavens.
He is the Creator of all things — and He created you.
\r\n\r\nYou are not an accident.
\r\nYou are not unseen.
\r\nYou are known by the One who holds the universe in His hands.
The Former
\r\n\r\n\”He who formed you.\”
\r\n\r\nThere is a beautiful depth here. The Hebrew word for formed literally means to press, to squeeze, to mold into shape — like a potter shaping clay.
\r\n\r\nCreation was the beginning.
\r\nForming is the ongoing process.
Why the need to form us?
\r\nBecause we are alive — growing, changing, responding. The forming is what shapes us into vessels that are pleasing to God and fit for His purposes.
But forming often involves pressure.
\r\nJust as clay must be pressed and refined, life brings seasons of stress, challenge, and growth.
Yet here is the encouragement: the hands that formed the stars are the same hands forming you.
\r\nYou are not being shaped by random circumstances.
\r\nYou are being lovingly formed by your Creator.
Do Not Fear
\r\n\r\n\”Do not fear.\”
\r\n\r\nWhy does God say this? Because He knows we do.
\r\n\r\nWe fear the unknown.
\r\nWe fear failure.
\r\nWe fear rejection, loss, loneliness, and weakness.
Yet in this one simple command — \”Do not fear\” — the Creator speaks peace over all our anxieties.
\r\n\r\nWhy can we let go of fear? Because of what comes next.
\r\n\r\nI Have Redeemed You
\r\n\r\n\”I have redeemed you.\”
\r\n\r\nIn the Hebrew, the meaning is to buy back, often used of a relative purchasing back family property or rescuing someone from bondage.
\r\n\r\nGod is saying:
\r\n\”I have bought you back.\”
From what?
\r\nFrom the grip of sin.
\r\nFrom the chains of shame.
\r\nFrom the dominion of death.
And yes — this points us straight to Jesus, our ultimate Redeemer, who paid the full price to bring us home to the Father.
\r\n\r\nYou are no longer a slave. You are redeemed. You are free.
\r\n\r\nCalled by Name — You Are Mine
\r\n\r\n\”I have called you by name; you are mine.\”
\r\n\r\nThis is staggering. The Creator of the universe is not impersonal.
\r\nHe knows you — intimately.
He calls you by name.
\r\nHe claims you as His own.
You are not a number. You are not lost in the crowd. You are chosen, known, and loved.
\r\n\r\nA Final Reflection
\r\n\r\nHere’s what stands out so powerfully in this verse:
\r\n\r\n- \r\n
- God reminds me that He is both Creator and Former. \r\n
- What I am today is the product of God’s creation — and His loving, ongoing formation. \r\n
- He is also my Coach, my Teacher, my Former — shaping me through every season. \r\n
- Because of this, I do not need to fear. \r\n
- I have been redeemed — bought back at great cost. \r\n
- I belong to Him. \r\n
\”You are Mine.\”
\r\nLet that truth settle in your spirit today.
